Teen Youth Group

On Saturday, Feb. 28 during Shabbat School, students in grades 8 through 12 will participate in a program with by teen leaders from the National Federation of Temple Youth (NFTY).

The NFTY teens will do a presentation about the national organization and the opportunities it provides. Our teens will decide for themselves what type of organization they want, whether it will involve social events, civic service activities, helping in the religious school, such as helping to lead services for their peers or younger children, or helping with social action projects taking place in the community. NFTY youth groups are peer led organizations that provide a lot of diverse opportunities, including leadership opportunities, for the teenagers who take advantage of it.

Parents are encouraged to attend a separate meeting at which an adult NFTY adviser will facilitate a discussion concerning what our goals are with regard to the teenagers in our congregation. The discussion will include information about resources for starting a youth group and suggestions for how to help provide Jewish experiences outside of the classroom.
