Shabbat school for the 2011-2012 school year will begin on Saturday Sept. 17. Shabbat school starts promptly at 9:30 a.m. and goes until 12 p.m. each Saturday of the school year. There are some Saturdays that Shabbat School will not be held due to Jewish holidays or scheduled school district holidays. The dates that there will NOT be Shabbat school are:
• Oct. 8 – Yom Kippur
• Nov. 26 – Thanksgiving Weekend
• Dec. 24 and Dec. 31 -Winter Holiday
• Jan. 14 – Martin Luther King Jr. Day
• Feb. 18 - Presidents’ Day
• April 7– Passover
The last day of Shabbat school for the 2011-2012 school year will be May 12,2012 unless we have snow days to make up.
We are very fortunate to have all of our Shabbat school teachers returning from last year. Cheryl Friedman will be teaching the 1stgraders. Donna Kostiak will be teaching the 2nd and 3rdgraders. Shane Riley will be teaching the 4th and 5th graders. Emily Trunzo will be teaching the 6th and 7th graders and Don Minkoff will be teaching the 8th graders.
As usual Temple Hesed Shabbat School will be an educational and fun morning filled with Jewish learning, music and Shabbat Services for the children. The Teachers,Rabbi Swartz and myself will be working to plan special “morning out” trips for the children of all ages such as visits to The Jewish Home, Elan Gardens and the Dalton Food Pantry. We will also be scheduling some family services to be led by the children, will be followed by a brunch. This was a lot
of fun for children and their families last year. There will also be several Family Education Days worked into the Shabbat school curriculum. This is a great opportunity for parents to get involved with their children’s religious education. We expect there to be MANY opportunities for this type of parent involvement throughout the year. Your children will bring home flyers describing any such opportunities.
And lastly I would like to remind all parents to join us in the “Parent Café” each week during Shabbat School. Why drive all the way home and back again, when you can drink coffee and eat bagels and have some fun and stimulating conversation right in our Temple Library! We got a nice crowd last year and hope to see everyone again.
See you there!
